Our Privacy-First Approach

FormatKit is built with privacy as the core principle. Unlike traditional online converters that upload your files to remote servers, FormatKit processes everything locally in your web browser using JavaScript. This means your sensitive documents, images, and data remain completely private and secure on your device.

To keep the product healthy we measure high-level traffic trends using Vercel Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics. These tools provide page-level metrics only—they never see the contents of your files or the text you paste into our converters.

Data Collection

We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

• Files you upload or convert
• File contents or metadata
• Conversion history
• Personal information
• IP addresses
• Device information

Converter inputs and outputs never leave your browser. The only telemetry we record is aggregated page-view analytics that cannot be tied back to the content you process.

Analytics and Tracking

FormatKit uses two privacy-focused analytics providers to understand overall usage:

• Vercel Analytics records anonymous page views, device class, country/region, and performance metrics so we know which tools are popular and when issues occur.
• Ahrefs Web Analytics provides aggregated traffic insights and referrer trends to help guide roadmap decisions.

Neither service receives the contents of your files, clipboard data, or converter output. If you prefer, you can block analytics.vercel.com and analytics.ahrefs.com at the browser or network level to opt out.

How Client-Side Processing Works

When you use FormatKit:

1. You select a file from your device using the browser's file picker
2. The file is read directly by JavaScript running in your browser
3. Conversion happens using client-side libraries (no server communication)
4. The converted file is generated in your browser's memory
5. You download the result directly from your browser

At no point does your file data travel over the internet or touch our servers.

Transparency

FormatKit's code is transparent and can be inspected using your browser's developer tools. You can verify that no network requests are made when converting files (except for loading the initial application assets).

Third-Party Services

FormatKit is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may collect standard server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp) to operate the platform. We also embed Vercel Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics, each of which captures aggregated traffic metrics as described above. None of these services receive the data you paste or upload into our tools.

Data Security

Since your files never leave your device, they are as secure as your local machine. We recommend:

• Using FormatKit on a secure, trusted device
• Ensuring your browser is up-to-date for the latest security patches
• Clearing your browser's cache if using a shared computer

Your Rights

Since we don't collect any personal data, there is no data to access, modify, or delete. You are in complete control of your files at all times.

Changes to This Policy

If we make any changes to this privacy policy, we will update this page. However, our core commitment to client-side processing and user privacy will not change.
